TRACE

TRACE is a scientific research project developing AI-assisted methods for earthquake monitoring and analysis in Türkiye.

Its work on real-time data processing and cataloging enables faster, more reliable earthquake assessments and supports research in earthquake early warning.

Project scope

Through TRACE, we use AI to analyze earthquake data more quickly and reliably. Our work on real-time analysis and cataloging aims to improve earthquake monitoring and contribute to ongoing research in earthquake early warning.

Real-time earthquake catalog

We are working to identify earthquake signals as early as possible in continuous streams of seismic data. Our goal is to bring this information together in an up-to-date earthquake catalog that experts can review and verify.

AI-assisted monitoring and analysis

We assess the results produced by AI models alongside data quality and expert judgment. This helps speed up the interpretation of earthquake data while maintaining scientific reliability.

Earthquake early-warning research

In earthquake early warning, accuracy matters as much as speed. We study what is needed to produce reliable information in the first moments of an earthquake and assess how the methods developed through TRACE can contribute to ongoing research.

Research capacity and researcher development

We support collaboration among researchers, students, and engineers from different disciplines. This helps early-career researchers gain experience and develop new skills.

Research topics

Seismology

We combine data from seismic observation networks with seismological expertise to support reliable earthquake monitoring and cataloging.

Signal Processing

We analyze continuous seismic records using filtering, feature extraction, phase analysis, and waveform methods that help distinguish earthquake signals from noise.

Artificial Intelligence

We develop AI models to detect earthquake signals and seismic phases, characterize signals, estimate uncertainty, and improve earthquake catalogs.

Applied Mathematics

We develop mathematical and statistical methods that address speed, accuracy, and uncertainty in real-time seismic analysis.

Computational Applications

We build reproducible and scalable software pipelines for processing large volumes of seismic data in real time.

Data Analysis & Visualization Tools

We design tools that help researchers examine seismic signals, compare model outputs, evaluate earthquake catalogs, and communicate results.

Project Team

TRACE brings together researchers, students, and engineers from a range of disciplines.
